1. Toot N Toot N Toot – Curtis Mayfield – if ever a man’s career felt like one long highlight this is that man. But even so, those early 80s disco funk albums were phenoms. The reason people can’t write dance like this any more is because people can’t arrange songs like this any more. Because they aren’t using full orchestras live in a studio – Grade: A
2. Fuck you – Bad religion – Kicks out the jams with a vengeance and earns its payoff, the instrumental break not the epithet – Grade: B+
3. Back to Living Again – Curtis Mayfield – His farewell to life, with Aretha singing background, was, through some act of God, one of his best – Grade: A+
4. When My Train Pulls In – Gary Clark Jr – twelve bar blues – Grade: A-
5. Room For Happiness – Kaskade – I don’t dislike Kaskade more than I dislike Deadmau5. I dislike them equally – Grade: C+
6. Esmeralda – Ben Howard – the song is nothing much art folk, but the drumming is sequenced to play triplets all over the bottom and it makes it sound real good – Grade: B
7. Let’s Go – Ne-Yo – calvin harris does very little here, but he has very little to work with – Grade: c
8. Make It easy on yourself – Dionne Warwick – Retire already – Grade: C
10. Feelin’ Alright – Joe Cocker – Saves another movie, this time “Flight” – Grade: A
