Monsters Of Folk "Say Please" Reviewed

Happy Oberst October! From now until I see the man at Carnegie Hall on November 21st, I'll be focusing in on his music career, life, and anything that may fall inbetween.

I've recently become infatuated with the band Monsters of Folk. Each band member has come from a different musical group, each unique in their own right. Together, they create a one of a kind unforgettable sound. Conor is in the band, as a guitarist and singer. M Ward is in the group, and is also in She & Him. Mike Mogis is a producer and plays many instruments. Yim Yames is also in My Morning Jacket.

Just the fact that all of these musicians have crossed paths in the way they have is insane. What were the odds? All ended up touring five years ago and making a collaborative effort. This really is one of the greatest group of incredible and seasoned musicians of all time.

"Say Please" is a flawless tune. Each of them sing, which is rare in a lot of musical groups. When I heard of MoF, I expected Oberst to be the frontman. This isn't the case at all. Even when they're on tour and do a Bright Eyes song, other members sing certain parts. This adds another element to it and makes already great tunes revitalised.

The guitars in this song are crazy. It just shows off but not in an excessive way. The guitar solo blows my mind every time, too. It's so evident that all of the members have extensive musical training and experience. As for the vocals, I get chills every time. It's the butterfly feeling in your tummy when something really exciting happens; that's what I feel every time I listen to this song. I can't get enough of it. Even live, it is just as moving. I never anticipated such different musicians could come together to create one holistic and interwoven sound. It's beautifully composed and gorgeous.

All Oberst touches turns to gold.
