You heard "Doom And Gloom" before? Sure you have, probably a 1000 times. Entire albums of it, everything since It's Only Rock And Roll ever onwards, all blues crunch crunch crunch, a hot as hell derivtive in a long line of Stones songs. It ain't "Gimme Shelter", which it resembles a little at the tail end of the verses, the "all i hear", and if the hot shouted Jagger vocal is going nowhere new, man, it is a miracle it is going anywhere at all.
The lyric, despite a proforma chorus, is pretty great. Better than anything on the Stones last release, the godawful A Bigger Bang:
Pretty good, right? And if all it amounts to is a touchdown in a swamp, dancing is a good way to get you to rock off the blues.
The band is awesome, they sound just like… well, just like the Stones, Charlie watts, man. He is one in a quatrillion billion. Holds it down as hot as ever. And while I admit to seeing zero point in another Greatest Hits package, better one good song than 10 dogs. And this is good, it is good Stones. Wow, that's fantastic.
