Iman and Hel Do SNL: Passion Pit

They're called 'electro pop', but really they're just a pop band.  Their cute name is actually slang for Drive in Theaters and if you recall a few months ago the band was forced to bail out of a tour due to some health issues with lead singer Michael Angelakos.

I always feel badly for bands when they have public breakdowns.  Substance or otherwise its tough to have your undies in full view.  This band was just getting revved up and I have a funny feeling this gig was booked well before the tour stoppage.  I'm glad they could make it out and I'm proud they didn't give up.

Tonight is a tricky thing. Imans head is in a different decade just in from PiL's show and me?  I'm too lazy to be bothered with yet another band that will disappear in 3 years.  Wait, have Passion Pit arrived yet?  A slot on SNL used to be a real honor.  In the arms of the Gods and now just in the arms of a limping craggy old cow.

Saturday Night Live… lets go… Dressed like scruffy college kids there is no doubt these guys have a hipster following.  This being said the infamous Mary Magpie felt the need to add her two cents to our usual 2 man review.

"Take A Walk", starts out more like a funeral entrance and evolves into your typical pop tune with stompable beat and whisper lyric.  Its hell, and I will never 'get' this bland white rice music.  It fills the space with the mundane.

Mary on the other hand feels the bassist is 'jammin', sounding much different live than recorded.  Apparently this is quite stripped down and as for the lead singer- she had no idea he would appear so clean cut hipster.  She expected a much more sterile look. Passion Pit still ranks high on her list.

Yet Iman sums it up best "    If ever a band appeared to have no 401k plan, this is that. They are living, breathing parody of every band that ever came out of Brooklyn. And somebody
should have told them dark blue lighting? Maybe not on network television"

Passion Pit dipped below expectations.  Bruno Mars next week, that's gonna be interesting.
