Listen Up: 10-10-12

1. In A Big City – Titus Andronicus – This is as good as "Cheers", which makes it plenty damn good if you ask me. That lick, it is all over the song, gets you from the first moment, it is like a jig pogoing to its own beat – Grade: A

2. Just what I Need – Kid Cudi – Hot on the heels of Good Music's best moment, he nails it down again. apparently completely recovered from the sophomore slump.

3. That Summer Feeling – Beth Orton – remind me to play the hell out of this song, sitting on the fire escape in the dead of night on a hot and humid August night – Grade: A

4. With One More Look At You – Barbra Streisand – The song is a little iffy but the performance will bring you to your knees – Grade: B

5.Wall Of Sound – Kiss – You know what you think this is? That's what it is. PS May I note that this is off their second good album in a row – Grade: B

6. You're The One That I want – Olivia Netwon-John And John Travolta – Great movie highlighted with a great greats long that completely ignores the 1950s concept (only 20 years before the movie was released -it's like a 1990s concept album today: look ma, no cell phones) and instead power pushes a pop moment for the ages – Grade: A+

7. Good Il' Days – The Script – Sure, I hated the Will I Am song, but this better than, say, Gaslight Anthem – Grade: B

8. Only You – Ellie Golding – A cursorily listen to the album finds a disappointment but not a disaster. Not unlike this song – Grade: B

9. Be Above It – Tame Impale – I'll let Alyson do the work here: "There is an overwhelming psychedelic feeling present from track to track, with big circular, fuzzy out or reverb guitars and synths making druggy waves, and more pedal effects and grandiose moments than you can stand in a few minute" – Grade: B+

10. First One In The Car – The Wallflowers – The lyric is a little weak and the vocals a touch too raspy, but hey, better than "Roll On Johnny" – Grade: B
