Taylor Swift's 2012 Releases Reviewed

OK, so song # 4 off the eagerly anticipated Red, dropping October 22nd moves on its stomach, its bass, so you gotta think, that's a change up. Yeah, I guess to a degree. Anyway, you will see my take on the song below along with the rest of her 2012 releases.

1. We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together – This song is so big, it is huge. Huge seller but also who most simply fun song since "Love Story" which it comes close to, though can't eclipse. It is so funny, it is a pleasure to fall into. It eases you. Grade: A

2. Begin Again – The gentleness of an emotional rebirth and country vibes is calming, hopeful, a dream of romance beginning. Best line: "I think it's strange that you think I'm funny because he never did". I love the way who voice jumps an octave on never did, and also I love the smartness of loving someone when they laugh at your jokes – Grade: A-

3. Eyes Open – This is a future TS is putting on whole for right now. A rock and roll mover with folk leanings off the Hunger Games soundtrack – Grade: A-

4. I Knew You Were Trouble When You Walked In – Dubstep is to the blues what house is to r&b, a new building block to signify seriousness. WHich it does on this love labours lost. Probably the best rhythm section she has ever presented on a song – Grade: B+

5. Safe And Sound – With The Civil Wars playing back-up, this is a truly different Taylor and her voice is a little light for the old fashioned folk song. Still, it is a fascinating not unsuccessful attempt. I bet she will do an album filled with just such songs by the time she is 35 – Grade: B+

6.Ronan – This is another change of pace, a downbeat eulogy for a four year old boy who died of cancer and in aid of cancer research. But it is so sad it would have to have a sweeter melody not to descent into its own morbidity – Grade: B

7. Red – The only song I dislike so far. It sounds mushy, the metaphor is weak (and obvious) and it has the pre-fab feel of a Paramore. A pretty good hook (the "red-ddd"s) doesn't save it – Grade: C

Altogether? Red will be better than Speak Now.
