I've met Marissa Paternoster several times and she has been unfailingly sweet to me, plus Screaming Females is one of my favorite rock bands and their current album, Ugly, is one of the best of the year. I was thrilled to hear of them getting the opening slot on the Garbage tour, while wondering exactly what Garbage would make of the ferocious three piece?. In person is like an all American tomboy, on stage she looks as though she has stepped right out of a Hammer horror movie where the Victorian era little girl is haunting the castle.
Cool right?
Anyway, when I heard she had "mono", you know, the kissing disease, I didn't think anything of it but now comes news that Screaming Females are cancelling the rest of their Autumn Tour. Mononucleosis causes fatigue and can last for months on end. The last thing a rock star needs.
Here is the press statement:
"Since falling ill with mononucleosis in May, Marissa [Paternoster] has been experiencing severe chronic pains that have rendered it very difficult for Screaming Females to tour. To ensure that Marissa has adequate time to heal so that Screaming Females can continue, it brings us great sadness to announce that all scheduled dates after October 10th will be cancelled. Thank you for understanding and we will see you all in the very near future."
