TiTus At Bowery Ballroom Take Three by Iman Lababedi

1. Six hours was too long to wait for Titus Andronicus to get on stage. Marie Lynn, who was in the orchestra said the audience were young, sloppy, and drunk and who can blame em for that? For all my love of Titus Andronicus, sitting by myself in a cordoned off VIP second I slept right though the Sounds And Parts set (though Cloud Passing and the Babies were excellent and more about em in another post) and with all the will in the world my eyes kept closing.

2. The Monitor is a great album, probably the best rock album in many a long year, but the band’s pacing seemed a little off. It would’ve been a difficult set to sell at 9pm but at one in the morning, the way the songs are structured, through movements and paces, and always waiting to explode, it made an undisciplined audience something of a nuisance.

3. They didn’t do “Theme for Cheers” and I will never forgive them for that. How do they pass on one of their greatest songs?

4. If there was a raggedness to the performance, it was still more together than the Vampire Weekend gig. It takes time to get a set perfect and while Titus weren’t perfect on Saturday, they had perfect moments.

5. I’m not close to be done with both the live gig, the interview or the album.
