You Don’t Love God (If You Don’t Love Your Neighbour) – Carl Story – I love the way the chick sings “if you don’t love the neighbour”. Patrick heard it on the radio and used it for “Fear And Loathing In Mahweh”. Two great songs for the price of one.
Leeloo – For Science – A delirious speed pop paean to love at first sight by the great, gone, punk band.
The Battle Of Hampton Roads – Titus Andronicus – How the band managed to maintain the intensity for fourteen minutes (longer live) is a question rock lovers will have to deal with in time. But one thing is certain -this is the leasts elf-indulgent fourteen minute song you’ll have hear. Stickles, the band, build up and build up and build up through the first seven minutes to Stickles time crossing, song writing crossing, world crossing “I’m going back to New Jersey I do believe they’ve had enough and the band explodes into a rock music that is simultaneously pure punk and pure jam. It’s a gorgeous life affirming sound.
Sorry Only Counts The First Time – Wesley Wolfe – The thing with Wolfe is the song is the thing and the songs are excellent on his album Storage which I promise to write about closer to release date. “Every day we choose coffee over suicide” goes the first line!!!
The Beautiful Child – Kelley Ryan – Nessing said the orchestration was overkill. Maybe. But I’m glad it’s there.
The Chaconne – Dessa – Not bad but where’s the rap? It’s a dark moody with an interrupting violin and doctored drums.
Fluffhead – Phish – Where Phish cash in on their charm is the same place the Dead used to, country rock, which for all it’s weirdness, is still a fast pace to a self-evident conclusion.
Rollin’ Back – My Morning Jacket – This is kinda arty given the genre. Love James’ voice but the song isn’t quite there
