That's Madonna dedicating "Masterpiece" to Lady Gaga at an Atlantic City gig and perpetuating a somewhat one sided feud with Stephanie. You can see why Madonna might insult LG so vigorously, it is an anti-controversy, publicity that doesn't really matter to anybody but bloggers like me who can see it as another opportunity to go at Madonna for her awful set at Yankee Stadium.
There is no doubt Lady Gaga is influenced by Madonna, so is Nicki Minaj, but to claim LG is simply a Madonna wannabe is misguided in the extreme. Everybody uses the building blocks of the past, there is no option in the matter. But 2008's The Fame and the 2009's extended The Fame Monster stand as modern dance masterpieces. Taken together they are the equal of Madonna's entire 21st Century recordings combined.
So why is Madonna so petulant? Well, easy. Because she can see her fading powers in Lady Gaga's rearview mirror. Madonna isn't 108 years old, but her problems are wrapped in her age. I am not suggesting Madonna should act her age, well, not quite. I am suggesting that MDMA is a graceless album at any age but especially for a 50 something.
If Madonna is so livid about Lady Gaga's plagiarism, she should sue her and stop whining. Till then Madonna should stop pretending to be an artist and become a pop performer.
