Did I love Levon Helm? Sure I did. I saw him twice with his band at Beacon theater and once at Carnegie Hall with the Band. And I should've seen him more often but I am too lazy. The only time he was disappointing was the last time. By then the cancer was doing a big time number on him, and he couldn't sing or indeed speak. But you got to think. Can't dance, can't sing but what the hey, I might as well still play the drums!
Helm died earlier this year and on October 3rd there is going to be a benefit at the Izod center to keep his beloved barn going. The line up is a who's who of country and American and we have the presale code for tix which go on sale today (Wednesday) at noon. Here is the info:

On October 3, 2012, music stars and friends will join together to celebrate the life and music of Levon Helm at “Love for Levon.” The star-studded benefit concert will feature once-in-a-lifetime collaborations by friends and admirers gathered together to celebrate and honor Levon Helm. Performances will include GRAMMY, CMA, ACM, Americana and Dove Award-winning musicians: John Mayer, My Morning Jacket, Ray LaMontagne, Eric Church, Gregg Allman, Dierks Bentley, Marc Cohn, Patty Griffin, Warren Haynes, John Hiatt, Bruce Hornsby, Jorma Kaukonen, The Levon Helm Band, Robert Randolph, Mavis Staples, Joe Walsh, Lucinda Williams and more performers to be announced shortly.
All net proceeds from the concert will help support the lasting legacy of Levon Helm by helping his estate keep ownership of his home, barn and studio, and to continue The Midnight Ramble Sessions.
