Never Shout Never's "Harmony" Reviewed

If it were three days ago, I would've cringed if someone ever mentioned Christofer Drew, and how Never Shout Never is so great.  Three years ago, I loved him.  I've gone back and forth with him forever; it's a love/hate relationship.

However, it's three days later and I have "first dance" from Harmony stuck in my head.

After being around a group of very culturally diverse people previously this summer, my taste in music has fluctuated.  It's gone from folk to hard rock to pop to rock.  Now, it's back to folk.  While hanging out for six weeks with 11 other individuals, I was exposed to many different artists.  One of which is extremely noteworthy.

My friend Jared, being a huge fan of classic rock, rap, and a bit of alternative, was listening to Bob Dylan one day.  As I was listening, I started to like it more and more, and gained appreciation for it.  However, it didn't really satisfy my folky needs.  Later on, I read a comment online saying how Never Shout Never's Harmony was like a "teenage, amateur Bob Dylan with a few more pop influences".  Intrigued, I knew I had to listen.

Sitting through the album in full was a wild ride.  The first song, "harmony", talks about how "humanity will sing harmony".  The most touching line in the tune is "And I'm praying for the day when you and I and he and she, are we".  There's something to be admired about having such faith in humankind, and how one day we'll reach peace and equality.

My personal favourite from the 11-song CD is "first dance".  I think it's absolutely beautiful.  The mix between singing slowly and taking his time combined with the quick words and spoken word makes it really stand out.  It shows his diversity and I can't get enough of it.  No matter how many times I listen to it, I can't get sick of it.

"Sweet Perfection" is also a great tune.  It has that classic NSN feel, but with a splash of something new.  He's nailed the perfect folk-pop song, and it's very evident here because every little detail is filled in and polished, and the big picture is that of major improvement.

 My current NSN opinion: LOVING
