Tommy Can You See Me by Helen Bach

In 1975 movie goers were treated to the first ever “Rock Opera”, Tommy. I recall seeing this film in the theater when it first came around and now after seeing it again cannot believe I was allowed to do so. What a whacked out film that was. Its showing its age (as am I, I’m sure), but musically its pretty sound.

The story is lame. A pregnant Ann Margaret gives birth to Tommy shortly after hearing her husband dies in a military event. She couples up with a new guy, low and behold her husband really didn’t die in battle he comes home. Finds his wife with another man, blammo dead with a lamp and Tommy the boy decides hes not heard or seen a thing, and wont say a word.

So Tommy is that deaf dumb and blind kid, who sure played a mean pinball.

I suggest we now stick to the lp and let this film rest on the shelf. Ann Margaret is beautiful, Pete Townsend looks adorable, Roger Daltry had amazing hair. Tina Turner totally owns it as the Acid Queen and Eric Clapton was never cute was he? Keith Moon was pretty freakin awesome too come to think of it, but Elton was, hmm, well he had big shoes.

I was hoping to watch this and be 70s inspired instead it ended up sorta funny.

I’m going to give The Wall, Pink Floyds movie another go. Last time I saw that in theater (1982)i was freakin tanked and spent half of it with my eyes shut cuz it scared me and didn’t Geldoff shave off his brows?
