My Back Pages by Helen Bach

I have decided to go back and find some defining musical moments of my life. Self Indulgent? Yes, but I have been to some really crappy shows lately and well everything is starting to sound the same. Today I decided to cleanse my pallet so to speak.

So when suddenly I’m singing Tik Tok with blasphemised words ( wake up in the morning feeling like Z diddy-referencing my cat) I know its time to regroup.

So I’m thinking you need to do the same.

I literally have hundreds of cd’s. Yeah, I may not be as knowledgeable as my colleagues here, I may not be as factual, but I am a great lover of music.

So when I went downstairs to my basement to close my eyes and grab a disc (as most music is on my mp3 player but to add these would take forever and a whole lot of space.), I reached up and took hold of

PM Dawn Of The Heart, Of The Soul and Of The Cross. Instant time warp as my fingers touched it. Whats become of them (don’t make me stalk again -I ain’t afraid to do so) doesn’t matter so much as what they’ve left behind. I own three of their CDs and consider their version of “Norwegian Wood” from “The Bliss” album an absolute masterpiece. I also have “Jesus Wept” but by 1995 I was done with them.

This release from 1991 contains the semi hit ” Set Adrift On Memory Bliss”. The duo Jarett and Attrel Cordes of New Jersey to hipa delic boyz making a really unique sound. They got going during the sampling days, using Spandau Ballets “True”.

But what gets me now 19 years later is how cool this still sounds. Its great to listen back in time and still like the sound. I love the clarity of their accents, the mushroom induced psychedelic coupled with a beat.

Sensual,l like a bolt of crushed velvet, and just as beautiful. Vocally clean and musically interesting, I’m excited in my rediscovery. Lyrically some of the most introspective loving of the genre.

So, what should you find to get a dose?

hmm

Well I suggest the following:

To Serenade a Rainbow
Norwegian Wood
Id Die Without You
Reality Used To Be A Friend Of Mine
If I Wuz You
