I didn't think much of Eric Benet for the longest time, his sexuality was too in your face and his public image put me off my supper, and, really he wasn't so great that it made much difference anyway. If the deep soul man had hidden depths, they didn't hit me as worth ferreting out. He was the Lenny Kravitz of soul.So not much of a recommendation, right?
In late 2010, Benet released the spectacular old fashioned soul album Lost In Time. This was a stunning and beautiful album with featured singers like the great Faith Evans to lead the way, it changed my perception of the man on contact. I've been gagging to see him on stage for the past two years and was really upset when I heard that he canceled his Summer stage headlining performance at their 4th Annual R&B Fest this Sunday, August 11th, 2012!!! From 4p to 8p so the Sunday slot won't kill you for work the next day.
But I would have gone anyway because… ta dah – SALT N PEPPA will be there and sure to be Shooping. Plus the great Kenny Latimore and more.
Plus it is free.
Let me help folks, show up at 2p and head straight for the stands and you will be fine. Show at 4p and you might never make it in.
rock nyc's friends at the City Foundation are producing it so you know it will be very well organized and, as always (well, as mostly) IT IS FREE!!!!!
