God Save The Music

As much as I love going to concerts and watching bands like Alesana and Falling In Reverse, and listening to fun. and Four Year Strong, I find that music now is nothing compared to that of the late 20th century.

Bands like The Clash, Sex Pistols, Ramones, etc., were positively game-changing.  Being raised by parents who grew up in that scene set me on a path for a ridiculously great music taste and a passion for real lyrics and emotion.  Bopping in the backseat to “Johnny Appleseed” nd Joey Ramones’ “What A Wonderful World” pushed me to like more obscure tunes.  Whenever you listen to those older bands, a feeling comes alive that brings flashbacks of what the music scene was and how things were raw and perfect and genuine.  Even with The Beatles and The Who did so much for music and it wouldn't be anywhere near the same without ‘em.

As for my new found obsession with The Smiths, well that's simply because there's really no other band better.  You can't match up to their immense talent and flawless songwriting.  No other musician can compareto their perfection and undeniable je ne sais quoi.

Now, the radio is an abomination, there's a Justin Bieber movie, and teenagers don'teven know who Pink Floyd is.  It's a shame, and it really saddens me.

I'd always thought that music has been getting progressively worse, but the day I went into work and said "I love The Smiths", and the entire room's reaction was "…who?", I knew I had to do something.  To see people obsessing over The Wanted and One Direction is ridiculous.

Music isn't about the art anymore.  It's no longer about what you feel, and what you hear. It's all about what you see and if it's catchy.  No one wants to take the time to listen to older bands because they're "irrelevant" or they all "sound the same" when in reality, every Bieber tune is exactly the same.  The immense amount of editing and artificial fillers make for a fake new genre of music.

Even in the early 2000s with bands like Taking Back Sunday and Brand New breaking the mold carried onthe real gods of music's intentions.  Veering away from the boy band bubblegum mainstream, it's harder and harder to find bands like that. fun. replicates Queen, and metal bands replicate anyone from Motorhead to Metallica to Korn.  All the truly revolutionary musicians have passed or broken up or disappeared, leaving the real music lovers in their wake

When will we be graced with another Ian Curtis or Morrisey?
