Readying myself for next weeks Hesta Prynn concert I listened to her first band Northern State’s Dying In Stereo which I adored at the same time and if it’s possible prefer now and found myself at pitchforks ridiculous 0.8 out of ten review.
Look at it this way: the truth is the truth and opinion is opinion but why would you put an atom bottom on a band who are just starting out? Why not just say, I can’t hear it and leave it for someone else to review.
The album is, of course, great. It’s like what if the Beastie Boys came from Long Island and were chicks -the one eighth Camache Hesta Prynn just kills on the title track and if in 2003 they still had to explain their right to rock the mic, they can actually do it. It’s real.
The Pitchfork writer is kinda funny, Michael Idov claims the forty odd year married critic Robert Christgau is lecherous because he likes em. And the review is ridiculous. Wonder what Mike would make of Helen Bach. I get the instant backlash but cmon -if you dont like the rap review the back-up tracks which youd have to be deaf not to appreciate.
Every single song sticks, it’s not Licensed To Ill but it comes from a similar place: “What’s a girl like me supposed to do? Just get on the mic because you know you want to”.
