Shock Positive Jay-Z Review by Helen Bach

When it comes to artsy stuff I’m really not your girl. I mean I can walk a gallery with you and pretend to oo and ahh but the fact is you get to abstract with me and theres that fine line that goes from ‘art’ to ‘bull’.

So lets talk about Jay Z and Swizz Beatz (Mr. Alicia Keyes to you)  video for ‘On To The Next One”

Black and white is going to grab my attention every time, chanting in repetition will turn my head so as I enter the room last night and here the opening school yard sound of ‘on to the next one’ in constant loop I stop to watch. Please keep in mind that I cannot identify this artist by looking or hearing him. I am not familiar with his work and although I read this blog I don’t read anything about him I skim. Doesn’t matter. Hes generic Jay Z. Hes the guy with the big cigar right, or is that P. Diddy?

So back to the vid.

black and white with flashes of kids and fluids and makeup and light boxes and all the while that repetitive sing song in the back ground. The images that pass are interesting and although I think the song is about scoring some cash and upgrading l’m not sure and to be quite honest with you- I don’t care. Visually this is sucking me in like a print ad for Coach bags.

This is where my colleagues and I vary. I am incredibly visual. I can hate you or your band or your show or anything but if there is anything remotely interesting about the way you look. I’ll give it a second shot.

Such is this

So immediately after being entranced by the video I purchase the song and proceed to play it about 6 times in succession. Straining hear the lyrics but in this scenario it seems you standard fair of double yo’ money type stuff but its the swaggah of the music that I find myself in voluntarily moving to.

There are those calling this ‘satanic’ or ‘evil’ or whatever but I don’t care.

I love it

and know what? I’m gonna go find more Jay Z to NOT hate and I am also officially obsessed with bald guys cuz the drummer in the video is hot.

The song has everything it needs a fun riff, cursing, killer drums, Jay-Z has a beautiful speaking voice that makes me think.. why did I hate him? I forgot.. Swizz? One of the top hip hop producers of all times comes thru again.
