This is priceless: A spokesperson for the UK Prime Minister, the ineffectual David Cameron had this statement to share with paying public: "The Prime Minister disproved of tax avoidance and said “it was important that people pay the right level of tax”".
No, really? When Harold Wilson was Prime Minister, they chased my Dad out of the country for tax invasion, now they had em OBE's. And Cameron's disapprove comment is hysterical understatement.
Barlow is the former Take That boy band star who arranged the musical entertainment for the Queens Diamond Jubilee and got an OBE in return. All well and good. But he also invested in a company for the very reach being accused of being a tax haven, which is less good.
Barlow's lawyers stoutly deny any wrong doing and claim he pays a fortune in taxes and who is to say otherwise. that isn't the point. the point iis, surely just the look of impropriety might suggest a holding off till the case developes?
As my FB Ian MCNabb noted, the very rich are different than you and I. If you and I fiddle our taxes we don't get OBEs we get ten years in stir.
