The Sixties Aren’t Over, Man by Mike Nessing

Come And Get It – Badfinger- McCartney throw away becomes a big hit thanks to those Beatlesque treatments.

Come Together – The Beatles-Meanwhile, Lennon records a monster, although Macca’s presence here on bass and backing vox provide even more propulsion.

Coming Into Los Angeles – Arlo Guthrie-Acoustic guitar intro is pretty sweet. Nice pedal steel , too. I don’t know much about Arlo, but this track sparkles.

Commotion – Creedence Clearwater Revival- These folks certainly believed in what they were doing , didn’t they? Their music just oozes with attitude.

Communication Breakdown – Led Zeppelin- The B side of “Good Times, Bad Times”, but added here as significant because of all it inspired.

Compared To What – Les McCann & Eddie Harris-A jazz monstrosity like this has no chance at hitting the pop charts these days and that’s just sad.

Curly – The Move-great UK band from the sixties. Never made a dent in the US, but it wasn’t because of the material.

Daddy – Dolly Parton-Dolly of course is better known for her celebrity and physical attributes than she is for her songwriting. As far as the latter, she’s one of the best ever.

Darkness Darkness – The Youngbloods- Great track. Heavier than you’d think. Probably over shadowed by “Get Together” which was a 1969 hit but actually recorded two years earlier. Much more mature sound here, with lots of bite.

Days Of The Broken Arrows – The Idle Race-Together with The Move, these two bands would become ELO. Jeff Lynne was Beatle-y even back then.

Dear Prudence – Doug Parkinson In Focus-Good vocal, but the track itself is too close to the original.

Delta Lady – Joe Cocker-A Leon Russell song written about Rita Coolidge. Cocker’s version here is the definitive one, me thinks.

Didn’t You Know (You’d Have To Cry Sometime) – Gladys Knight & The Pips-Can somebody explain to me why soul music went away? I hate to sound like an old bugger and say “they don’t make em like this anymore” but, well…there it is then.

Dizzy – Tommy Roe-It was a big hit, but so far I’ve heard about 5 or 6 songs that were better. Only about 1/8th through the alphabet and we are finding lots of hidden gems
