You Shook Me-Jeff Beck
More bluesy than the Zeppelin version, and a more faithful rendering of the original. Rod on vox before he became Rod.
Dignity-Bob Dylan “Tell Tale Signs” is an album of alternate takes, outtakes and leftovers recorded between 1989 and 2006. It was still better than most anything else that came out in 2008
It wouldn’t Have Made Any Difference-Todd Rundgren-Todd paints Elle Greenwich. It’s sort of a shame that Rundgren grew tired of writing songs in the “Brill Building” style. I suppose that once he mastered it, like here, it was natural for him to want to move on. He was really good at it, though.
Valleri-The Monkees-Boyce and Hart, songwriters. I remember my dad bought the 45 for me. More importantly, he dug the tune.
Eat At Home-Paul McCartney-”Ram” album is probably my favorite Macca solo, obviously… that and his first one.
Lullabye- Emmit Rhodes-I wrote about Rhodes previously as that “other” genius from Hawthorne, CA. His self-titled LP on ABC Dunhill is required listening.
Hey Bulldog-The Beatles-Was this as good as The Beatles ever got at trying to get back to basics in the studio? Perfect track in every way. Big piano sound, little echo on the snare during the “you can’t talk to me” bit. Great Lennon Vox with Macca on the harmony bit.
he Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia-Vicki Lawrence
Not totally sure why I even have this. As far as songs that tell a story, Gimme “Ode To Billlie Joe” every time.
Shangri-la-The Kinks-After listening to and writing about “Preservation” recently I have to admit that many of the themes and ideas represented better within this one song.
My Mood Swings-Elvis Costello
I never saw “The Big Lebowski”. This tune is from the soundtrack. 2:10 of absolute joy.
