In the world of blogging, indeed, in the world of websites, content is King. But what constitutes orgiinal content and what constitutes copywrite infringement.
I’ve been doing this for awhile and it boils down to this. If we are posting a cut and paste job -as Mike Nessing does from time to time and I do never (I don’t like to post unless I have an opinion) we should always label it so.
If Helen is doing her hybrid -a press release with a snotty comment I think we should just say where it’s from.
And if we are doing one of “Haiti” think pieces based upon news content sometimes we should mention where we nicked it from and sometimes we shouldn’t..
Sometimes I will find a story on Rolling Stone or NME, reearch it further, and end up on Reuters. Do I have to give the entire world credit?
Anyway, from now on I don’t think we should credit on the byline for cut and pastes or one liners… but always for think pieces and reviews.
