1. Tulane – Chuck Berry – Tulane and Johnny sell drugs from behind the counter of a novelty shop. When the cops bust in, Johnny trips and is caught but Tulane gets away in Berry's 1970 last great flying car fantasy. From 1970, check out the harp as primary musical instrument. – Grade: A+
2. Youth Without Youth – Metric – Sexy vocals from Emily, steady strong drums front and center. Welcome back – Grade: A
3. I Belong To Me – Richard Barone – NPR called it a plaintive masterpiece, and I'll second the assessment – Grade: A
4. That's Why God Made The Radio – Great verse, chorus not so much – Grade: B+
5. Goldie – A$AP Rocky – Two great rappers, with a great drum pattern and a terrific flute on loop – Grade: B+
6. Transverse Temporal Gyrus Part One – Animal Collective – Who actually listen to this? Makes Panda Bear sound like the Archies – Grade: B-
7. Intergalactic – Beastie Boys – From their last great album, the threesome echo each others sentiments in a triangulation of rap with a kinda old fashioned Kraftwek sample – Grade: A
8.Californication – Red Hot Chili Peppers – A pun so great, they must have copywrited it by now – Grade: A+
9. Filthy/Gorgeous – Scissor Sisters – If they have TWO opening bands tonight, I will be very upset… Grade; A
10. Can't Smile Without You – Barry Manilow – His best song, is probably his smartest. Opens with a chorus that works like one long hook, a tiny bridge leads to the first verse and chorus/verse play off each othen till a delirious elongated bridge. Barry bows out for the fade and lets his back up singers take him home. A real song sung blue, any one can sing, you don't really need to even know the words – Grade: A+
