This hits me as bullshit. I mean, I'm no policeman but if I was I would phone the numbers and arrest the pimps who were enslaving women and return the underage children to their parents or the State. Then I would give the Village Voice an award for doing the job the police can't be bothered doing.
But really, who believes it.
This is the modern equivalent of equating homosexuality with pederasty.
Give me a fucking break.
If these Artists or the NYPD gave a damn about the "problem" of prostitution, they would bring it out of the shadows and not thrust it further in.
Prostitution is a business, women and men sell their bodies so ugly, or weird, or lazy people, can get fucked. It is the second oldest profession. It existed in ancient Greece, it existed in Jesus' time, it exists in Iran, today, as I write, there are prostitutes in the middle of a theocracy where you can be stoned to death for the "crime".
Let's take another look.
Prostitution will be around as long as their are being. It exists in the animal world, it exists now. To hate prostitution is to hate people. It should be legalized,, licensed, ghettoized and taxed so the police can stop wasting their time on the self-employed and spend their time helping the immigrant slaves and the under aged. By making all prostitution a crime there is no deviation: it is simply a crime.
While I am sure there is some truth to the claim that slavery and child prostitution is being made available on backpage.com, it will happen with or without backpage.com, and at if it is as far away as a phone call and such a huge problem, why is nobody calling?
