The Summer Set performed a new song called "The Way We Are" live at the Saguaro High School Graduation Project Fundraiser. This new song was performed simply, just a guitarist on an acoustic and Brian Dales singing.
I've never really enjoyed The Summer Set live as much as recorded, but it doesn't mean that I still don't like them. However this new tune definitely is tailored to Dales' voice way more. A lot of times it felt like he was pushing too hard, which made his voice kind of uncomfortable to listen to. Although there's nothing really special or new about this song compared to their old stuff, it's nice to see that they're consistent. I think that it'd be easier to really tell if this was recorded, because they may be missing a few embellishments or sounds because this version is so simple.
I'm not surprised that there's nothing special about this tune, simply because The Summer Set has never been notorious for taking risks. I think that they should start taking some, though, to keep things interesting.
