If you are in the market for a teen market which features booze, drugs, promiscuity, teen girls making out, and ending so over the top it is just a wonder to behold, look no further. "Project X" is the one for you… and me!
Three high school losers, labeled "unrepentant, nihilistic, vile, venal, animalistic, avaricious, charmless, entitled, sub-Kardashian, stunningly irresponsible brat" in an awesomely over the top review in Empire, decide to hold a party when Thomas (Thomas Mann) parents leave home on his 17th birthday.
They hold a party that gets way, way way way out of control. Lotsa, drugs, sex, dance music, DJs, you name it. The movie uses hand held cameras and pretends to be a cinema veritie though the director Nimah Norizadah cheats when he feels like it.
I guess middle aged movie reviewers considered gratuitous female breasts and hot bodies, male and female grinding, misogynistic. Why? I dunno why. I think it is fun.
Look, if you're too old for dumb fun, by all means pass. If not, this movie is a blast all thr way through. With a great happy ending.
Musically, it appears to be stuck in 2009. Pusha T, Nas, Cudi… like that. A-Trak represents the dance scene with a real good Yeah Yeah Yeah's remix.
Movie: B+
