No Hall Of Fame For Monkee Davy Jones

To paraphrase, will we ever agree upon anything the way we agree upon how much we all hate the rock and roll hall of fame? The rock And Roll Hall of fame is to fame what Bono is to humility. The structure itself is a naff looking monstrosity in Cleveland. Why in Cleveland? So there isn't a chance in hell any one will visit? If I lived in Columbus Ohio, I wouldn't visit. If I played for the Indians I wouldn't visit. Hell, if I lived in it I wouldn't visit.

How about this tid bit from Wikipedia on the voting process? "A former member of the nominations board once commented that "At one point Suzan Evans lamented the choices being made because there weren't enough big names that would sell tickets to the dinner. That was quickly remedied by dropping one of the doo wop groups being considered in favor of a 'name' artist…I saw how certain pioneering artists of the '50s and early '60s were shunned because there needed to be more name power on the list, resulting in '70s superstars getting in before the people who made it possible for them. Some of those pioneers still aren't in today."

Yeah, nice guys eh? The word of the day is "Transparency" and no there isn't the slightest.

Which leads me to the late great Davy Jones which, to Rolling Stones credit, they reported in Davy's obituary, he formed the "Davy Jones Rock And Roll Museum", in response to the Monkees being excluded from the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame.

I remember the story of course and it really is as clear an indictment of Jann Wenner's screening process. Otherwise known as kowtow to Wenner and you get in. Wenner always hated the Monkees from way back in the 1960s. But so what? Really, they were one of the biggest rock bands of all time, how do you ignore them. Really, this was Wenners way of saying this is my bat and my ball and if you don't like it go fuck yourself.
