Post-Authentic? Think So, Bruce?

Maybe I am overdoing it with Bruce Springsteen -I mean, I am actually a big fan so why bother telling him off? Right? But really, how much more obvious can an elder spokesman of rock and roll get.

This is what he said in his oft quoted Austin SXSW speech: "We live in a post-authentic world. The elements of what you’re using don’t matter. Purity of human experience and expression is not confined to guitars, to tubes, to turntables, to microchips. There is no right way, no pure way of doing. There is just doing."

Here, let me translate: "I have a new producer who used samples to little effect on my latest album."

Really, in the year 2012, Bruce Springsteen wants to express his faith in the authenticity of beats? Really? Where has he been all century? What does he think has been happening. Look, if Bruce had said this in 2000, really, any time prior to Black Eyed Peas "The E.N.D." you think, okay, a wake up call. Cool. Good for him.

But in 2012 it is completely irrelevant, it is barbaric. What is he trying to tell us, exactly? How don't we know it? Were we born under a rock? Have we been asleep all century???? Forget century, have we been asleep since the 1980s? Or is he just trying to make fellow fathead Dave Grohl's ridiculous analog argument look bad????
