Was it me who said Taylor Swift had a great voice. Nope. It was me who said she had no voice and should go to clubs and learn to sing if she wanted to have a long term career. It was me who said she couldn’t and shouldn’t hide behind theatrics. It was me who said she needs to start again. It was also me who called her the best songwriter in a generation.
Anyway, I skipped the vast majority of the Grammy’s but when everyone i spoke to mentioned how terrible her performance was (Helen Bach: “she carried her performance like a timid rat”) I figure I better check it out.
This was a terrible lapse of judgement on the behalf of Team Swift and if even her parents are too scared to shake her into reality I believe her problem is bigger than I thought. That’s the corrupting power of power.
The truth is Swift doesn’t REALLY need to sing because she can write great modern pop songs BUT she needs to sing well enough to sell em when she has to. Putting Swift next to Stevie Nicks is the equivalent of putting Kid Cudi next to Ghostface Killah. With one difference; this time the world was watching.
If Swift has learnt her lesson this could be Part II of her career. This could be where she puts the next piece in.
If she hasn’t she will still have a glorious career because SHE CAN WRITE SONGS!!
