Joan Baez has an eye for talent. Hooking up with Bob Dylan is one thing, but hooking up with Steve Jobs 20 years later is something else again.
I've seen Joanie live two times. Once was at Baalbeck in Lebanon in 1975 just as the civil war got cracking. She was excellent. The next time was in the mid1990s at Carnegie Hall and she was also excellent. The Queen of Folk has a beautiful vibrato and is a fine songwriter in her own write. Plus she's a zelig and shows up everywhere. Froom Woodstock to Apple!!
Incidentally, she doesn't know me but I have a few mutal friends and her reputations as one of the nicest people in and out of the music scene precedes her.
This is what she had to say about Steve who, apparently, was a hippie. This is what she said about her relationship with the late techno giant who she dated in the 1980s.I took it off Page Six:
"He was “totally left brain, and I have none. Mostly we argued . . . He said he could create with a computer a classical quintet that would be as magnificent as any there ever was. I said there couldn’t be the soul in it. On the other hand . . . his last words? ‘Oh wow! Oh wow!’ He was probably rearranging the Golden Gate.” Were they in love? Baez responds, “Maybe, or maybe I was just fascinated.” She adds, “I had friends who said: ‘Marry him! You’ll never have a financial problem in your life.’ But I couldn’t quite do it.”
