Where Were You In 2007? A Review Of the Top 10 Singles Five Years Ago

Ah yes, editing a music blog. 5 years I knew two of the songs on the February and except for Justin, not all that  well. 2012, I know all of them and the albums they came off as well!

Compared to the current charts, 2007 feels very transitional. Dance pop was still Timberland and everybody else and the drums sound positively mooted! Within two years, Lady Gaga and Black Eyed Peas would change the face of pop again. but here it was still a struggle.

1. Say It Right – Nelly Furtado – Too slow and the drum pattern is too simple. It's like a stalling engine.

2. Irreplaceable – Beyonce – Excellent pop song, a very, very sweet soul music.

3. The Sweet Escape – Gwen Stefani – The follow up solo album was not as good, but this isn't the worst song in the world. Gwen's influence on modern pop tends to be ignored, but this is a rough sketch for Katy Perry's career.

4. This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms race – Fall Out Boy – When Helen and the Magpie go on about these guys, they mean this classic mash up of emo, punk, rock, dance and pop.

5. Runaway Love – Ludacris – With Mary J? Hasn't aged well.

6. It's Not Over – Daughtry – I will say this, this moldy piece of rock and roll crap doesn't sound any worse than it did in 2007.

7. Cupid's Chokehold – Gym Class Heroes – It might be much but for what it is, hip hop as top ten fodder, it works fine.

8. What Comes Round – Justin Timberlake – Off the best album and best concert of 2007.

9. Glamorous – Fergie – Ludacris is on two of this top ten list, so is Akon.

10. I Wanna Love You – Akon – Then he signed Lady Gaga, dropped the autotune and rolled around in his money.
