I saw Fiona Apple years ago at what is now Best Buy on 44th Street, she was pushing her excellent Extraordinary Machine so it must have been 2005. She was good not great, there was an awkwardness about her presentation and she seemed to not much care for the audience. A couple of years earlier, Fiona had had a major league meltdown at the very same venue (I think it was there) and the atmosphere wasn't great.
It was one of those nights when you didn't know what to expect but what you got wasn't enough. Dressed in a Stevie Nicks hand me and stuck behind her piano, she delivered her material well but not very well, if you see what I mean.
So why double dip?
Well,
1. Did you read Alyson's report a coupla months ago about Apple's performance? Sounded like she had her mojo back…
2. A bad apple don't spoil the whole tree, right?
I think I'm gonna go for MHOW. I know what you're gonna say, but sightlines aren't great at BB and if you arrive early enough and walk up a small flight of steps to the side, the sightlines are awesome at MWOH. Plus, yeah it is further away but
1. MHOW is a Friday, BB a Monday
And
2. It isn't much further, just switch to the L from Union Square, instead of taking the M to Second Avenue.
