Adam Lambert was all set to become the greatest American Idol of all. He sure seemed to have the gifts needed, good looking, could swing a cover, and already to ppunce with a big time first album. But the album stiffed and the follow up Beg For Mercy disappeared without a trace.
Adam Lambert had convinced himself he was a modern day Freddie Mercury, but he just didn't have the muscle for it.
Or did he?
When Queen play Knebworth this year, Lambert will have the Mercury role.
The goup and Lambert have a history, Queen performed "We Are The Champions" with Lambert at the Idol finale in 2009 and Lambert appeared with Queen at the MTV Europe Awatds last November (there is a video of them performing "The Show Must Go On" below.
Without a doubt this is a much better fit than Paul Ridgers and the news that Lambert will be taking the Mercury role to lead the band this year at Knebworth is a thrilling one. Any chance of a tour?
Lambert said: "I'm completely in awe of the Queen phenomenon. The thought of sharing the stage for a full set is so beautifully surreal. I'm honoured to be able to pay my respects to Freddie's memory. He's a personal hero of mine and I am deeply grateful for the chance to sing such powerful music for fans of this legendary band. I know the evening will be a huge milestone for me, and with the support of Brian, Roger (Taylor, drummer) and the rest of the band I know magic will be on display."
