Sleigh Bells didn't have to travel too far for tonights SNL. The 'noise pop' duo is from hipstonia, also known as Brooklyn, Derek Miller and Alexis Krause have corralled a nice little fan base to follow them about.
They are too cool to be mainstream so the odds that anyone either than a music junkie would have heard of them is rather light.
This is a genre of music I have found to be most disturbing. Its not music, its not speaking to me its more like speaking at me. Like the bitchy barista at suburban Starbucks.
The video for "Comeback Kid" made me hate them from the word go. Annoying girly voice and technozaz. It's times like this that a power outage would be most welcome.
But guess what? If I listen without watching its not bad…its actually sort of good. For some reason the song improves 10 fold when I don't have to watch them. Its catchy its fun and its got enough repetition that I don't have to pull the lyrics. Simplistic I suppose would be the best word.
It's Saturday Night Live time- and without fail.. we're hear to usher in this weeks musical guest.
The song is the same but WOAH Alexis is allot older than I thought she was and honest to God what up with the white granny shoes?
See I love the chorus of this song but the actually verses are so squeaky its hard to tolerate. As for stage presence, well she tries. The others pretty much just bite their upper lip- which looks ridiculous but then again… I don't think we're supposed to like they way they look. That would make them lose their hipster cred. I don't hate it- I don't love it.
Iman? He saw that guy at Warped with Poison The Well and he was great then as he is now. The song was already one for this years best and this is a great take.
Iman is pretty kind to the SNL performers.
But will he be the next time we cuddle up for SNL?
March 3, Jack White……I'm stoked.
