There was a time in the 1980s when Metallica were beyond cliches like "cool". There were times when they were the only metal band that mattered. It was as simple as that. But before the Sandman enters, he wrecks destruction on your body and brains so somewhere in the folllowing 30 years they stopped being cool characters from an update of "On The Road" and became terrifying refugees from a Victorian Goth novel. Metallica are uriah Heep.. no, wait, they are Fagin: taking money off young boys and counting their gold ducets mutterring about "… all I have in my old age".
In a word: yuck.
But now comes word that will be playing their very cool indeed The Black Album in its entirety at this years Download festival and can a world tour be that far behind?
The Download Festival is an offshoot of Oxxy's Monsters Of Rock -a five day English hell on earth type metal festival. This year's line up also includes Prodigy ,Steel Panther; Slash featuring Myles Kennedy; Megadeth, Rise Against and the incredible shrinking Black Sabbath reunion. It will be from June 8th thru June 10th. Unfortunaely, I will be washing my hair that day.
