1. Too Far Gone – Tammy Wynette – The pain here is so indelibly linked to Tammy's tone that the words don't REALLY matter, it would be clear the pain of a lost love is irreperable. I wouldn't mind plunking Adele in front of this song, just to remind her love is not the same as complaining. Tammy is clearly in pain and just as clearly, her pain is completely real.

2. The Lion's Roar – First Aid Kid – The Yank take on the current English folk revival has a taste of C&W about it.

3. 2012 – Jump Into Gospel – Indie take on Motown with a taste of the Garage.

4. John, I'm Only Dancing (Again) – David Bowie – This is an interesting soul outtake from Young Americans. I am not 100% convinced it works, and I'm sure it isn't as good as his originals. But the ending, with chicks singing "Dance dance" and Bowie growling (yeah, I know) "I'm only" is worth the price of admission.

5. Sun God (Andrew Weatherall Remix) – Cut Copy – I am not a big Cut Copy fan but I am open to persuassion. Certanly this remix, based open a four note keyboard motif revolving in different keys, is 7 minutes of excellence.

6. You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When I Go – Miley Cyrus – I wonder if she knows what Verlaines and Rambeaus means?

7. Leftovers – Jarvis Cockers – The great one's last great song is an ode to middle age lust.

8. Star – David Bowie

9. Man Or Muppet – Walter – The worst Muppet song ever and it is still the best song up for n Oscar.

10.Ooh Baby Baby – Seal – He likes character but makes up for it on the high notes.
