American Idol Viewership Down 27% From Last Year

rock nyc doesn't cover everything, we are just a handful of people and we miss stuff, sometimes because we can't be bothered and sometimes because we have nothing to add to the conversation, and sometimes because we forget!

Two years after Mary Magpie reviewed every single episode of the 2010 season of American Idol, we didn't mention its premiere in 2012. And this indifference is reflective of a society that is becoming swiftly satiated in its thirst for reality and variety shows and both. After the dreadful "The Voice" and the dreadful "The X Factor", American Idol, with the hideous and scary Steven Tyler terrifying the world with his badly scripted quips like a presenter at the Oscars, is down 27% from last year.

What does this mean? It means they are giving 1:4 no charges to advertisers who bought ratings. It means "The Big Bang Theory" is gonna beat it one of these days. And it means the disaster we expected in 2011 is gonna happen in 2012.

Nobody claims 17M viewers isn't impressive. But nody claims it is as impressive as 32M from a couple of years ago.
