Must See Concerts: Jonathan Wilson And Cloud Nothings

Cloud Nothings on January 26th at the Studio At Webster Hall and Jonathan Wilson on January 19th at Mercury Lounge.

I am going to, and recommend them, both.

I was a little behind the time with Wilson -a sorta neo folkie, like Bon Iver without the ego or the upper register, who has sessioned for folks like Jackson Browne. His second album, last year's Gentle Spirit, is like being mugged by a marshmallow (and he has Christopher Paul Stelling open, who can steal any stage he happens to be on with the greatest of ease). Still, the album is definitely a grower and with the doors at 630, it won't be that late.

Cloud Nothings is yet another opening band I came out raving about a coupla years ago, who were roundly ignored by everybody else. Since I saw em, CN have gotten quite popular: their next album is produced by the ubiquitous Steve Albini and they are playing gig at the Studio At Webster: never a bad place to catch a band. Incidentally Alyson, they are playing L.A.'s Echo in early March, you should check em out.
