The One That Got Away: M.I.A.'s Vicki Leekx

"I find, if it's not the world it's the people, and if it's not the people than maybe it's you, if it's not you than maybe it's me, but if it's not me than it's the music" So sayeth M.I.A.. "You can have my money but you can't have me". She adds.

2010 was not a good year for the misnderstood bad good of dance. Her album of 2010 MAYA was considered a disappointment, though mainly because people misread her as a mainstream pop star. She made quite a few inflamatory comments white eating fries in truffle oil, pissed off the rock critics (even me, though I changed my mind0, and made no friends during her tour. A left wing primadonna married to the son of one of the richest men in the world. Good luck with that.

But on New Year's Eve 2010, she dropped her tribute to Wiki Leaks, the Viicki Leekx mixtape and redeemed a fucked up year in one fell swoop.

36 minutes of beats and rhymes, much better than her album, so good it makes you wonder what her problem had been.

I played it non stop at the beginning of the year and Sara Kaloudis  raved about it on rock nyc

I myself wrote I would be shocked if it didn't make my best of 2011 list and here it is at #6. .

It's just a shame M.I.A. didn't perform a similr mix tape for Occupy Wall Street
