1. Love Thine Enemy – Cassie McCombs – The culty sing-songwriter has been around awhile now and his latest is more of the same which means it is very smart and powerful modern melancholia.

2. Hot 'N' Cold – Katy Perry – When I hear this song all I can think of are Katy's boobs not on Sesame Street, and what a great little number this is.

3. The Greatness – Pac Div – What is it with rap and self-aggrandizement? Exothermic in the hip hop community, don't folks realize it sounds desperate? This ain't that -he wants her and despite his greatness he can't have her.

4. Someone Like You – Adele – Have a good cry and then get on with your life.

5. Ours – Taylor Swift – Best line? "People throw rocks at things that shine" -which is true as well.

6. On And Ever Onwards – Dirty Projectors  and Bjork – From one of 2010's best releases, this is why we are so disappointed in Biophilia.

7. Big Time Sensuality – Bjork – Yeah, I saw her on this tour. 1995  Tricky opened. The peak of her career.

8. Leave My Body – Florence + The Machine – Maybe the biggest song of the year, a bone rattling expression of soul and transcendence leaning in and out of sould music.

9.Brandeburg Gate – Lou Reed and Metallica

10. Sly – Girl In A Coma – The intro is a weirdly beautiful Middle Eastern flavored guitar lick before it settles into a large sounding  yet minimal ballad.
