Polysics is the Asian Devo
But I don’t know what they’re talking about. For some reason this isn’t an issue.,
The rich keyboard techno is not only old school slam dance punk fast it carrys a knock out drum. Again my new obsession.
My headphones are on overload. There are 10 thousand tones blips and twitters going on, the only constant happening is the is the rhythmic snare. I have to say ‘Eye Contact’ is highly contagious and as RockNYC takes on the world of foreign influence Polysics is Hello Kitty with combat boots. Cute but tough.
“E.L.T.C.C.T”. is too much for me too fast too high, wow. That’s a 4 ticket ride at the fair. Not for the faint of heart
BUT ‘Bero Bero’ is just plain fun and I can see alot of broken lamps in the living room as pogo dancing hipsters flap about the house. Again fast.. so incredibly fast you cant help but want to check your pulse.
The best of the lot though is ‘Speed Up’. As if this is a plea to us to keep up with them or a rally cry to the band not sure but the funky plunk of the bass is most notable here. Fumi any Yano, that’s the bassist and drummer. They star in this one. I cant imagine the band live. Sensory overload indeed. I would love to see crowd reaction as well. Would this be old school Devo fans or a brand new breed of up and coming techno core kids. Regardless Im loving the 80s revival of it.
And seriously it was just couple of weeks ago I wrote of my renewed love affair with Devo.. imagine my stoked factor to hear this. I can say that when ‘Fire Bison’ came on the Magpie pogo’d into the room and did a bad ass robot dance move. You cannot sit and read a book with this band playing this is clean the house, work out dance your ass off music.
The band is embarking on a US tour in support of their new release Absolute POLYSICS” January 28.
If they’re coming to your town and if you ever belted out Devo tunes or any other 80s techno you must check them out. Be prepared to be swept away though they’re a tsunami of sound, fast furious but fun
