"Although I don't have anything against people from other countries, the higher the influx into England the more the British identity disappears. So the price is enormous. If you travel to Germany, it's still absolutely Germany. If you travel to Sweden, it still has a Swedish identity. But travel to England and you have no idea where you are."
That is what Morrissey didn't tell NME and for misreporting of which he sued the paper owned by Time/Warner, Inc.
So… that happened in 2008, as Billboard recently reported. And Morrissey just got around to filing suit because his former manager was no help. NME wanted the suit dismissed due to inactivity but the Judge , Justice Tugendhat is allowing it to go forward because "The imputation complained of in this action is a very serious one, the extent of publication was very wide. "Mr Morrissey remains a prominent figure in the world of music, and NME is a magazine which enjoys an important place in that world.
If this is a case of a writer making up a quote, I wonder how much responsibility the NME holds. It seems to me that a writer who makes up quotes should essentially be fired , an apology issued and that's that.
How does NME's actions constitute libel???
I can't wait to find out.
