Bayside is a four-piece rock band from Queens. They've been around since 2000, and have 6 full length albums and two EPs. They've changed record labels quite a few time and their latest album, Killing Time, was released on Wind Up Records.
Bayside played the Royale in Boston, MA on October 8th and 9th. I was beyond excited to see them live on the 8th. They're one of my favourite bands of all time, so I was borderline fan-girling.
As soon as the lights dimmed, the audience screamed and screamed. Everyone was excited. As the band came on the stage, they started their set out perfectly. They had a backdrop that was the cover of their album Killing Time, and the crowd started dancing along.
"Sick Sick Sick" rang throughout the crowd, one of my favourite real anthems of all time. The band was so energetic and I was completely captivated. The crowd wasn't moshing or violent, they were dancing. And crowdsurfing. It was one big dance party amongst the attendees of the show, and it was so cool to watch because you could tell everyone was having a good time.
"Devotion And Desire" was great. The band was clearly having fun and they were moving around the stage and were really energetic. They were so much fun to watch, and the song was spot on. The fact that they can be so good live and recorded baffles me.
When they played "Montauk" I had a mini heart attack. I was really hoping they'd play it, so when they launched into it I was so excited. It has one of my favourite guitar solos of all time, and I couldn't wait to hear it live. It absolutely blew me away. The energy in the room escalated as the crowd was singing the band's lyrics right back to them. It was absolutely stunning.
"Don't Call Me Peanut" is one of my favourite Bayside songs. Lyrically and musically, it's so perfect. Anthony had an acoustic guitar brought to him and he started to play the first chord, and everyone in the audience lit up. The audience's singing was so loud it matched that of Ant's stage mic. He put so much emotion into it and cracked a few smiles as he acknowledged his fans passionately singing along to the words he wrote.
The band was beyond phenomenal watching the spectators and seeing their happy faces really radiated off the guys, and they played their hearts out. What a fabulous night. We also had the fabulous opportunity to interview the band. Stay tuned for that!
