With the release of her first album Northern Lights earlier this year, it became clear that the Johanna Cranitch of "Spring Cleaning" had fully evolved the sound she was working on with A Forest –a moody, powerful folk music comparable to Kate Bush and Tori Amos,
Northern Lights was heavy going but worth the effort. A soaring, passionate work heralding the arrival of a major force on the rock scene.
Johanna and her band the Dusty Floor are playing at Brooklyn's Cameo Gallery on October 11th and while I worry she will have lost misplaced the playfulness so evident when I saw Johanna and the Dusty Floor last year at Rockwood's, it would be worthwhile if only to hear "Cloudbursting" in person.
