Meryl Streep And Helen Bach’s Fave Band: Devil Wears Prada

Devil Wears Prada was announced as AP Magazines Band of The Year

Determined by readers poll DWP is the crowd favorite amongst the metalcore set. “Hey John Whats Your Name Again”, may have helped them gain notariety, as a RockBand video game song.

This genre is interesting since at first hearing it can be rather disturbing sounding angry if not just plain ‘noise’. The extrodinary screaming almost evil sounding roar is often offset by a melodic lyric, not always the same person but at times it is. Mike Hranica is one of the all time heroes of metal core. The range coupled with the stamina in performance is intense. Stamina being the biggest need here. To maintain the level of power of voice has got to be draining.

Devil Wears Prada has participated in 2 Warped Tours, last year we had the pleasure of meeting up with them A rather scruffy line of merry men but professional offstage. Their offstage person vs their performace persona is night and day. To listen to them youd think them a giant frat house full of filth, on the contrary. Theyre articulate and rather chill. Yeah I said it rather ‘chill’. Perhaps they release all that insanity on the stage.

Just as some prefer techno dance I prefer the gutteral sound of strangely inapprorpriate anger. Theres a raw power to the sound thats primal in nature but definately show men as men.

I suppose back in the day of ‘hard rock’ there was just as much shock and disgust as people who just couldnt quite understand it condemned it instead. Come to think of it I hated alot of old ‘hard rock’ too.

Metal Core, Hard Core, Beard Core… its an amazing addiction. Its not a very ‘intelligent’ form of music on the contrary its almost angry Ramones in its simplicity. Which could actually be its appeal to me.

My musical interests are very tempermental. If you recall just a few weeks ago I was ready to pack up my life and become a roadie for the Decemberists. Couldnt be further from The Devil Wears Prada, which is this weeks fun. I was pretty psyched the were in my mailbox today.
