The Show is Amazing. That is all that can be said!
Now understand this is coming from a 35 year old man, who used to scream at his parents to change the radio station whenever Frankie Valli or this type of music was playing. I couldn’t understand why they loved this music and I never imagined that I would ever like it.
But truth be told Jersey Boys had me running out buying Frankie Valli CD’s and blasting the songs and singing along on my drives around town. One thing I think is kind of funny is Jarrod Spector – The actor who played Frankie had an amazing voice and I think the songs in the show sound better then the CD.
A true sign of how good this show is was my mother. My mother wanted to see this show badly and it was my Christmas gift to her. I just wanted to make her happy and knew nothing about the show. Now I have been to many amazing movies and shows with my mother and I have to tell you, I have never once seen her make it through a whole show or movie without dozing off. I usually enjoy watching this as much as the show. Her eyes haze over and her battling her eyelids to stay open and then the head bobs. It is quite comical. At dinner before Jersey Boys I made a bet with her that she would not make it through the first act without falling asleep. I lost that bet.
I never saw my mom so excited in my life. She knew the words to every song and I pictured her being sixteen years old at a Frankie Valli concert. She was singing so loud that at times I couldn’t hear the show. The people in front of her keep asking her to quiet down. She would momentarily and then they’d play another one of her favorites and she be back jumping in her seat screaming the words (not singing). It was so awesome for me to see her so happy and alive. But I have to be honest, I would move away from her, because the performances were so good, I wanted to hear them singing and not my mom’s screaming.
About the Show: The cast was excellent. They were great actors and musicians. I really enjoyed the storyline. It tells the story of the Jersey doo wop band that became of the best selling acts of the sixties with hits like “Big Boys Don’t Cry” and “Oh What A Night”. The costumes and sets were great, you really felt like you were back in time. It made me jealous and I wished I had grown up in the sixties after watching the show. The outfits of the time and loyalty of the neighborhood, made it seem like it was a great time to be alive. The story line flowed seamlessly into the songs and you felt like you were at a concert during the songs. Once they went into the songs the crowd would start clapping and singing along. It was crazy to me how many historic songs they created. The energy and flow of the show was great. Usually there is a null, but this show takes you for a ride back in the early sixites from start to finish and the excitement doesn’t stop until the curtain falls.
Bottom line old or young, familiar with the music and story or not, this show is great entertainment and an awesome experience. I would highly recommend seeing it.
