Rock Against Racism, For Free Speech by Helen Bach

The three Rs should be Rock Roll and Racism or Rock Roll Regret?

What a bore it has become to have everything so ultra censored so as not to offend. I can be somewhat guilty of this, no one wants to deal with the ramifications of their words. I don’t want to offend you you don’t want to offend me we don’t want to offend someones uncle

But why? Why do we as a society avoid conflict so often and why do we feel the need to please all?

And why is it OK for us to allow Kanye to spew his crap, or Public Enemy to spew there but somehow Empire Fails cant have the same right without being gasped over?

We as a society have become so weak that we aren’t quite sure how to react. I agree with Iman burn a white effigy wooooooot burn a black effigy, you’re going down. So whats that? Reverse racism? There is no such thing as colorblind. Its how we chose to process it.

Music is at many times a vessel delivering a thought you your brain via your ears. What you chose to accept and translate it to is based on your intellect, your upbringing (like it or not) and your social aptitude.

Just so much as Heavy Metal does not cause children to kill, Rap music doesn’t not make me want to bust a cap in your ass……Although it does allow me the fun of using that phrase. Back in the day I hung out in the same clubs as ‘skin heads’, listened to ‘oi’ and not once harmed are bought into the teachings of supremacists. I have loved reggae all my life yet never followed the teachings.I like some trippy psychedelic stuff, and have never done psychedelic drugs. I have sung along to songs that were nothing more than words to me- no meaning.

Sometime music is just entertainment. Sometime there’s a bit of risk involved. But if you jump in my car you’re going to hear Snoop and you’re going to hear the NWA and youre going to hear The Agnostic Front and you’re going to hear The Cockney Rejects and youre going The Specials.(depending on how long the ride is) It’s OK to have an opinion on things and its OK to discuss them rationally and civility.

Taboo is good for the soul. People are astonished and somewhat disturbed at my fascinations with some rather uncomfortable topics. Does that make me capable of the acts I’m aware of? Hell yes it does, but where and when and IF I chose to behave in such manner is the difference.

In a forum such as this I would hope all thoughts could be voiced and acknowledged and I pray not all agreed with. For then we are nothing but drones.

There is tact. Which as adults or civilized children- we should have.

There are those amongst us who will do whatever it takes to be the most open, the most ‘fair’ the most zen. Screw that. You’re offended? leave a comment saying it sucks and maybe a WHY to open up conversation. Diversity is good only if its sincere. There are those who voted in our president based on nothing BUT his skin color. To me that is more dangerous than anything.
