Yesterday was the ten year anniversary of the passing of the Queen of the Damned herself, Aaliyah.
Aaliyah was like Sade with a pulse: there was a steamy something about that was all about soul and source. All her albums are must owns, and not just because of r.kelly's nefarious dabblings. But One In A Million was giant.
I saw her live once at Radio City, singing to back up tapes, here is what I wrote in rock nyc about it (not much but I'm growing old! http://rocknycnew0115.wpengine.com/2010/08/a-flashback-aaliyah-at-radio-city-music.html
And, better still? Here is "Are you That Somebody", not just her best moment but with the exception of his work with Timberlake, Timberland's best moment.
I am sorry I missed this yesterday… She was taken from us horribly early. She'd be what? Thirty if she had not died in that plane crash.
