How I wish someone anyone would give these guys the break they so deserve. With the proper management and promotion this Chi Town band could be all over our airwaves and filling arenas and not the seedy clubs we trek to see them in now. I have said for years that with the right tutelage Madina Lake is the most mass appeal band to come along in a very long time. Musically sound, professionally presented. A live show not to be missed no matter what the size of the stage. Seriously if anything find them on youtube live. They are charismatic, talented musicians and diverse. What more is there to rock and roll anyway?
Sparks The Rescue
Teetering on the ledge of acknowledgement comes Sparks the Rescue. A niche here of the teenage set singing songs that hit their soul. These boys can be the new All American Rejects.
I can absolutely see the Jr Class adopting this band as their most fave. I cant understand how crap like Boys Like Girls can step up and Sparks is in a basement. They have a broad appeal, and a great semi unique sound. Shall I say they have greater range. They look good glossy so I can see them in a J-14 page poster. I’m hopeful for them, again depending on the guidance of their management. They’re ready, and after speaking with them last month they’re mentally ready. I love enthusiasm and I’m rooting for them.
Elotheos.
Here’s my unsung hero band of the year. David Torres has a distinct, powerful and diverse voice. Don’t discount the art of screaming. Its gruelling its painful and to switch it up from croon so growl is certainly not for the faint of heart. He hits some crazy high notes then pulls it all the way down to the subway landing. Unsigned and primarily local its time, its time for these guys to be on one of those mega bills that we’ve been speaking of. Musically diverse, with a positive message and a big brother appeal that some bands fake, these guys are real. Their fans are so loyal and I know why. Because you cant help but feel them as a support system, Elotheos can entertain you but they’re not looking down at you from the stage they’re lifting you up with them.
Another insane drummer that makes you wonder when the air mask is going to drop from the ceiling so he doesn’t kick over Justin Vensel has that fancy kit but he DESERVES it.
Dual guitarists Alex Katz and Andrew Costa keep up just fine thank you and although they have yet to play on a stage big enough to support their gear and light boxes (at least not the times I have seen them) I can guarantee you with the proper space these 2 would put on one hell of show. Andrew Wells is saddled with the bass, keeping the mayhem in line. Perfectly.
Their facebook biography sorta says it all:
“We exist simply to get your mind off your everyday problems. Broken hearts & homes, thoughts of suicide … no matter what mom or dad says, you’re not a loser. You’re not gonna work at Mickey Deez for the rest of your life and even if you do … IT’S OK! You are loved, cause we love you.”
and I love them.
