Rolling Stone and the Entertainment industry should be thoroughly ashamed of their hapless abrogation of responsibility for Haiti's relief funds.
In the wake of Haiti Earthquake a year and a half ago, Helen Bach, Mike Nessing and I warned and warned and warned that the entertainment communities efforts to raise money was going to end in disaster.
I can't count how many times I wrote about this before concluding: "Fuck Jay-Z, fuck Haiti, fuck hype: gimme my fucking dollar back."
In the current issue of Rolling Stone, the huge rock mag, which ignored the reality of rock star charities till earlier this year, report "Beyond Relief: an unprecedented effort to rebuild (Haiti) has turned into a disaster of good intentions".
Now they tell us? NOW?? Where were they when rock nyc was the only website in the world screaming at people to stop and think about how to help Haiti instead of throwing tens of millions of dollars that, inevitably, as we write and wrote, didn't get there.Couldn't get there.
I found the article unreadable (I already knew most of it) but a couple of sentences jump out.
"The relief effort was blindsided by the cholera outbreak" How can you be blinded by cholera when THERE IS NO DRINKING WATER????? That is the stupidest sentence ever written about anything ever.
"Only a fraction of the money raised for relief has been spent". Well, duh. How many languages did we need to write this in? And, wait just wait, and find out how much of the money is actually left.
"What (Haiti) needs is more professionals who know what they're doing to go out and rebuild it".
Yes, you fucking idiots. Where is the surprise in this.
Why can three people at rock nyc look a year and half into the future AND KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN, while lazy, ignorant fucking rock stars play goddamn charity gigs with ZERO CLUE AS TO WHERE THE MONEY IS GOING.
